Confucius Institute Established in Portugal

The opening ceremony of DUFL eighth Confucius Institute—the Confucius Institute at the University of Aveiro, was held in Aveiro, Portugal on April 23, with over 200 Chinese and Portuguese representatives present.

Portuguese Assistant Prime Minister and Minister for Regional Development Miguel Poiares Maduro, Portuguese Minister of Education and Science Nuno Crato, Chinese Ambassador to Portugal Huang Songfu, Deputy Director of International Council of Chinese Language, Wang Yongli, President of DUFL Sun Yuhua, and Rector of University of Aveiro Manuel António Cotão de Assunção jointly inaugurated the Confucius Institute.

At the ceremony, Rector Assunção, President Sun Yuhua, Deputy Director Wang Yongli, Ambassador Huang Songfu, and Minister Crato delivered speeches respectively to express their gala.

The successful establishment of the Confucius Institute is another significant achievement of DUFL in the internationalized school-running and international popularization of the Chinese language. The Confucius Institute will for sure play a significant role in promoting the cultural exchanges and cooperation between China and Portugal. It will also strengthen the relationship between DUFL and the University of Aveiro.
