The 14th “Chinese Bridge” Chinese Proficiency Competition for International University Students closed successfully in Changsha, Hunan Province on 2nd, August. Mateo Maya, a student from DUFL’s Confucius Institute in Medellin, grabbed the continental championship of America among 133 competitors from 97 countries. Mateo got the best performance ever recorded in Columbia, the best gift for the 5th anniversary of the Confucius Institute in Medellin.

Great efforts lie behind Mateo’s honor. He never stopped a single day with the help of his tutor Chen Rupei since his registration for the competition.

It’s only been three years since Mateo began to learn Chinese in Confucius Institute in Medellin. He pursued his further education in DUFL with scholarship provided by Confucius Institute Headquarters and NOCFL from 2013 to 2014. His Chinese improved enormously after a year’s study in DUFL. Now he can express his thoughts in Chinese at will and deserves being dubbed as Mr. China.

Mateo wishes that he will be able to spread Columbian culture in China some day.
