Prof. Chen Shanwei from the Chinese University of Hong Kong, School of Humanities and Social Sciences gave a lecture on the subjectIntroduction to Translation Science and Technologyon Oct. 12th, 2016. The lecture was hosted by the Teacher and Teaching Development Center of the Office of Teaching Affairs, with more than 200 teachers and students who are teaching and majoring in translation attending.
The two-hour lecture covered the nature and scope of translation science and technology and the impact it has brought to translation and the translation industry. Professor Chen also discussed the development of the CAT system, which has changed the conventional practices of translation and translation teaching methods. Professor Chen concluded his presentation with the teachers and students, attending the presentation, discussing the development and challenges of translation science and technology.
Professor Chen Shanwei earned his doctoral degree at University of London, UK in 1977, majoring in Computer-aided Translation, bilingual lexicography, and Chinese to English translation. In 2002, he introduced the first CAT course for MA students at the Department of Translation, Chinese University of Hong Kong.
