Vice President Yang Junfeng Meets with Lee Meche from SDL
Vice-president Yang Junfeng met with Lee Meche, Operation Director of Asia-pacific Area in the British Headquarter of SDL Company in Room 419, meeting room in Chengzhi Building in Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL)on the morning of October 31. Five other members from SDL and directors of other relevant departmentsfrom DUFLalso attended this meeting. Mr. Yang introduced the principles of cultivating talents inDUFL: improve the system of cultivatingpractical talents, strengthen the construction ofapplication-oriented majors, deepencurricular reforms, improveuniversity-enterprise cooperation mechanism in cultivating talents, and enhance the design of practical teaching, etc. He also hoped thatLee’s visit would help both parties continue to create new cooperation concepts, share the resources from university and enterprise effectively and deepen the mutual cooperation on the basis of current cooperation model.
At the meeting, both partieshad aprofound exchange on future cooperation insuchfieldsas faculty training, language service, education on innovation and entrepreneurship and so on.
After the meeting,Mr.Lee along with histeam had a formal discussion on the implementation and promotion ofcooperation programs between DUFL and SDL withthe heads fromGraduate Student Office, ofAcademic Administration Office,School of English Studiesand School of Advanced Translation and Interpretation. Mr.Leewasalsoinvited to introduce to the teachers and students from School of English Studies and School ofAdvanced Translation and Interpretation about the development history,business scope,team strength, development goals and prospects of SDL company as well as the development of translation localization market, with DUFL-SDL cooperation programs as his focus.He hoped that studentscould seize the opportunities to actively take part in the internship programs and get themselves trained in the practice activities, so that they can improve their competitiveness in future employment.
It is reported that SDL Company has signed an agreement withDUFL and has become one of the off-campus practice bases for DUFL students. Selected students will be recommended toparticipate in a six-month internshipprogramin the company. DUFL will invite professional instructors on translation projects to give lectures and offer related courses, and dispatch professional teachers to lead the interns,which willhelp enhance the practical translation abilities of these teachers and explore how to develop new courses in practice.Meanwhile,teachers and students in DUFL are encouraged toaccumulate their achievements based uponDUFL-SDL cooperation programs. The cooperation results ofthe practice base will be enrichedthrough translation projects, translation works, published papers, innovation and entrepreneurship projects, etc.
