President Liu Hong met with Vice-chancellor Dr. Marcelo Van Doni and his three delegates from Kent State University of the United States on March 28, 2017.
President Liu briefed her guests the recent development of our language disciplines, the non-language majors, and the training programs for language compound talents. She said that Kent State University’s “China-US-Italy” training program is highly in line with our development demand to cultivate international, diversified and high-level multi-language talents and that when students of English, Italian and Russian majors finish their basic courses, they can choose to study two semesters on Kent State University campus and the Florence campus. A year’s study will help improve their language ability, open up vision to the world. She hoped that both universities would further cooperate in the fields of student exchange, teacher exchange and joint scientific research.
Deeply impressed by the beautiful campus, Dr. Van Doni introduced the internationalization efforts of Kent State University in recent years, a public university which ranks the second in Ohio. He said that DUFL is an important partner, and the cooperation in such compound talent projects as English plus Italian, Italian plus English and Russian plus English is a good start. He hoped that both sides would develop new projects of compound languages and foreign language plus major projects in the future and achieve two-way communication in student exchange and teacher training.
