Associate Professor Zhu Meng from Shanghai International Studies University was invited by the School of Oriental and African Languages to give a lecture titled "Thai Language Through the Historical Perspective"

On the afternoon of November 23rd, the School of Asian-African Languages invited Zhu Meng, Associate professor of the School of Oriental Languages of Shanghai International Studies University, Doctor of Asian and African Languages and Literature, and master's supervisor, to give an online lecture on the theme of "Thai Language from a Historical Perspective" to the students of the School of Asian-African Languages. The lecture was hosted by Ms. Li Shufang, Director of the Department of Thai major of school of Asian and African languages. Foreign teacher Wu Bingfa and all students of school of Asian and African Languages Thai major participated in the lecture.

Associate Professor Jumong first introduced the status and usage of the Thai language, and made it clear that the teaching content in the undergraduate period is represented by the central dialect of Bangkok, namely the standard Thai language. Then, from the perspective of the enlightenment of the historical and cultural implications of the Thai language to the non-native speakers of the Thai language, Associate Professor Zhu Meng guided the students to interpret the Thai text in a certain historical context in language learning, and the influence of historical, cultural and social factors should not be ignored. At the end of the lecture, Ms. Zhu Meng gave some guidance to the students on their professional study and expressed her ardent hope for the students majoring in Thai language of school of Asian and African languages.

This lecture helped the students of the School of Asian and African Languages learn that the study of Thai language should proceed from an objective historical perspective in the context of the new liberal arts. They should not only understand the evolution and development of the Thai characters in the past, but also strengthen the interpretation of history and time in the future study. Only by learning Thai with a broad vision and interpreting Thai in multiple dimensions can we specialize in Thai. (Chen Rupei)
