On May 29, the final of the 27th "Maple Leaf Cup" English Speech Contest co-sponsored by Dalian People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Dalian Education Bureau, Foreign Affairs Office of Dalian People's Government and Maple Leaf Education Group was held at Furama Hotel in Dalian.
Mr. Xiao Shengfeng, President of Dalian People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Mr. Haliette Lara, Principal of Dalian Maple Leaf International School, Mr. Zhang Guoqiang, Vice President of Dalian Maple Leaf International School, Mr. Yang Junfeng, President of Liaoning Provincial College Foreign Language Teaching Research Association, as well as heads of relevant departments of the Municipal Government Foreign Affairs Office, Municipal Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries, Municipal Education Bureau and representatives of teachers and students from all schools in the city attended the meeting. Five contestants from the School of English and the School of Advanced Translation performed well and won two grand prizes, one first prize and two second prizes. Shi Wenrui, a teacher from the School of English, won the Excellent Instructor Award.
After 27 years of hard work and accumulation, the "Maple Leaf Cup" English Speech Competition has become increasingly influential since it was first held in 1997. It has set up an important stage for English lovers in Dalian to display their talents, exchange and learn from each other and broaden their horizons
This competition consists of "impromptu speech" and "live question and answer" two parts. The participants of our school delivered impromptu speeches on the topics of globalization, culture and education, scientific and technological development, and personal development respectively, and demonstrated the vigorous spirit and profound cultural heritage of contemporary youth with their confident and full posture, vivid and smooth expression, and profound and beautiful content.
