On June 3, the opening ceremony of the "Across Mountains and Seas: Mutual Learning Among Civilizations" cultural study camp was held at our university.
Distinguished attendees included: Kong Feng, Deputy Director of Liaoning Provincial Department of Education; Gao Fei, Deputy Director of Foreign Affairs Office of Liaoning Provincial People's Government; Wang Mingliang, Director of Dalian Overseas Chinese Affairs Office; Jiang Chunmei, Executive Vice President of Dalian People's Association for Friendship with Foreign Countries; Dr. Carl Winston, Dean of SDSU's Payne School of Hospitality & Tourism Management; Ren Tao, Faculty member of HKUST's Center for Language Education; as well as DUFL leadership: Party Secretary Wang Weichen, President Cong Mingcai, Vice President Liu Fengguang, and other senior officials.
Representatives from San Diego State University, Hong Kong University of Science and Technology, Hong Kong Metropolitan University, Macao Polytechnic University, and DUFL faculty/student delegates participated in the ceremony.
Kong Feng highlighted Liaoning's cultural heritage as Northeast China's gateway, emphasizing new opportunities in Sino-US cooperation and Liaoning-Hong Kong/Macao collaboration.
He encouraged participants to experience Dalian's "Romantic City" charm and become ambassadors of cultural exchange.
Dr. Carl Winston affirmed the program's significance in promoting global education and cross-cultural dialogue, urging students to gain mutual enlightenment through multicultural perspectives.
Student representatives from SDSU (Kiara Garcia), HKUST (Kang Ruimin), HKMU (Chen Ziwei), MPU (Wu Jiayuan), and DUFL (Fu Gengchen) delivered speeches.
Vice President Liu Fenggang presided over the ceremony.
Attendees jointly activated the 2025 DUFL Cultural Study Camp via a start button.
The 60+ participants will engage in:
• Youth Forum: "AI-Enabled Sustainable Campus Development"
• Field Study: "Global Governance & Urban Development"
• Traditional Chinese Cultural Experiences
Post-ceremony, Vice President Liu held separate meetings with SDSU and HKUST delegations, reaching consensus on deepening educational cooperation.
