The 2026 Summer Davos Forum in Dalian has concluded successfully. As a state-level high-end international exchange platform, the grand event brings together global wisdom and serves as a vital stage for testing the talent cultivation outcomes of universities and demonstrating young people’s international responsibility. During the forum, more than 80 teachers and students from our college were stationed at two core service venues—the main conference venue and Grand Hyatt Dalian. Supported by professional translation expertise and youthful volunteer strength, they provided high-quality full-process language services, built a bridge for Sino-foreign dialogue through faithful and accurate interpretation, and delivered an outstanding practical performance.
Two senior interpreters from the college, Fang Ju and Chen Jing, were on-site throughout the event. Working with a team of postgraduate students from June 21 to 25, they completed simultaneous interpretation and liaison interpretation for a series of high-profile activities, including the Global Shapers Community Exchange Session, the Frontier Technology Forum, and China-Vietnam Economic and Trade Negotiations. Delivering fluent, rigorous, error-free and flawless services throughout the forum, their solid interpreting competence won unanimous praise from the event organizer and Chinese and foreign guests alike.
The college rigorously selected volunteers for the service team, all of whom received specialized training covering municipal foreign affairs etiquette and cross-cultural communication. Student volunteers were deployed to three service lines: foreign delegation conference support, Chinese-side foreign affairs reception, and Grand Hyatt Hotel on-site services.Volunteers assigned to foreign delegation conference support reported early for pre-service training to fully master conference workflows and emergency response protocols. During the conference, they methodically handled on-site tasks including venue registration and guidance, schedule coordination and management. They also delivered supplementary support services such as bilingual guided tours for AR digital art exhibitions, fixed-post duty at hotel transportation hubs, and shuttle bus inquiry and dispatching. Working in an all-English real-world setting, they honed their professional capabilities and facilitated exchange and integration between Chinese and foreign cultures.
Volunteers for Chinese-side foreign affairs reception collaborated with Dalian Municipal Foreign Affairs Office to deliver full-cycle support for foreign guests. In the preparatory phase, they conducted thorough liaison with overseas delegations, verified travel itineraries, and customized exclusive reception plans. Throughout the service period, they took charge of airport pick-up and drop-off, hotel check-in procedures, itinerary arrangement, and on-site interpretation across all activity scenarios. They addressed a wide range of conference and travel-related issues with meticulous, prudent and thoughtful service.
All student volunteers served with full enthusiasm and poised demeanour, embodying the outstanding professionalism and youthful vigour of the School of Advanced Translation and Interpretation. Drawing on international platforms including the World Economic Forum’s Annual Meeting of the New Champions (Davos Forum), the school will further expand practical education pathways to cultivate translators and interpreters equipped with global vision and solid professional competence. Leveraging interpreting expertise, it will fuel the university’s international development.
