Our University’s Original Stage Play Selected for the Scientist Story Stage Play Promotion Initiative 2026

Recently, the General Office of the China Association for Science and Technology (CAST) issued the Notice on Releasing the Selected Plays for the 2026 “Scientist Story Stage Play Promotion Initiative”. Upon nationwide application and rigorous evaluation, our university’s original stage play Eternal Devotion, Silent Bloom has been officially selected into the 2026 initiative. A total of 91 plays nationwide were selected, among which only eight are from Liaoning Province. As a key program under the 2026 “Master Scientist Theatre Project”, the initiative is jointly launched by multiple central authorities including the China Association for Science and Technology, the Ministry of Education, the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the Central Committee of the Communist Youth League of China, and the China Federation of Literary and Art Circles. The selection represents a significant achievement for our university in inheriting the spirit of scientists through stage art and advancing talent cultivation via integrated science, technology and cultural education.

Centering on the legendary lives of Guo Yonghuai, a distinguished scientist for China’s “Two Bombs, One Satellite” project, and his wife Li Pei, honored as “the Mother of Applied Linguistics in China”, the play recounts the couple’s decades-long dedication to serving the nation through science and education. It depicts Li Pei’s admirable perseverance: enduring the loss of her husband in her middle age and her daughter in her later years, she still remained devoted to educational undertakings, pioneered China’s postgraduate English education for science and technology, and founded the Zhongguancun Lecture Hall. Combined with Guo Yonghuai’s selfless dedication to national defense, the play adopts delicate artistic expression to fully showcase the scientist couple’s sincere aspiration to enlighten the scientific community through education. It embodies the spiritual strength of Chinese scientists — resilient, noble and selfless — and reproduces their touching spirit of serving the country with science and passing down dedication from generation to generation.

Initiated and compiled by the University Student Online Ideological and Political Education Center under the University Party Committee’s Student Affairs Department, the play is jointly created and performed by faculty and students. First planned and premiered on campus in October 2025, it has received wide acclaim. Its performance videos have been released on mainstream platforms including CAST Fengqi Xuelin, China Scientist Spirit Network, Science Popularization China and Bilibili. On May 30, 2026, the 10th National Science and Technology Workers’ Day Dalian Main Event staged the play at the Daling Cultural Palace in Iceberg Wisdom Valley, attracting an audience of over 500 scientific and technological workers, primary and secondary school students, as well as university teachers and students.

The selection fully recognizes our university’s achievements in inheriting the spirit of scientists and cultivating talents through cultural education. Moving forward, our university will take this opportunity to fully implement the work arrangements of the China Association for Science and Technology. We will arrange regular performances and actively participate in the campaign of “Hundreds of Master Scientist Theatres Shining on Campus”. Through artistic storytelling, the university will further promote the spirit of contemporary scientists featuring patriotism, innovation, truth-seeking, dedication, collaboration and commitment to education. It will continuously inspire teachers and students to pursue truth and strive for excellence, contributing to the development of a stronger country in education, science and technology.
