Our University Hosts Symposium on Cultural Heritage Translation and International Communication

On September 5, the Symposium on Cultural Heritage Translation and International Communication, guided by the Translation Academy of the China International Communications Group and hosted by Dalian University of Foreign Languages (DUFL), opened at the university. As an important event of the university's 11th International Education Exchange Month, the symposium brought together scholars from universities at home and abroad as well as experts from the cultural heritage industry to conduct in-depth discussions on topics such as the international translation of cultural heritage, cultural interpretation, and international communication. The opening ceremony was moderated by Vice President Liu Fengguang.

During the two-day symposium, eight high-level keynote reports and four parallel sub-forums were held. More than a hundred experts and scholars from universities, cultural heritage institutions, and the translation industry at home and abroad gathered together, including Wang Xiaohui, former Editor-in-Chief of the China Internet Information Center and Vice President of the Translators Association of China as well as Chairman of its Cultural Heritage Translation Committee; Professor Dániel Kádár, Academician of the European Academy of Sciences and DUFL “Qihang” international expert; Professor Zheng Binghan of Durham University, UK; Dr. Lindsay Sullivan of the University of Aberdeen, UK; Associate Professor Claudio Bendazzoli of the University of Verona, Italy; Professor Liang Yan of Beijing Foreign Studies University; and Professors Wang Chun and Wang Shaoshuang of DUFL. They engaged in deep discussion on frontier topics including standards for cultural heritage translation, external interpretation of traditional culture, international communication of cultural heritage, and innovation in cross-cultural translation, fully demonstrating the diverse and vibrant academic ecology of cultural heritage translation research.

This symposium established a high-level international academic platform in the field of cultural heritage translation. It aims to distill and present the spiritual symbols and cultural essence of Chinese civilization, accelerate the building of China's discourse and narrative systems, enhance the effectiveness of international communication, and promote mutual learning among Chinese and foreign civilizations—carrying strong pioneering awareness and exploratory significance within China.

Looking ahead, the university will proactively align itself with the strategic demands of building China into a cultural powerhouse and the comprehensive revitalization of Northeast China, continuously strengthen its advantages in multilingual translation and cross-cultural communication, further reinforce the development of the external translation center jointly built with the province and the city, deeply activate the reservoir function of multilingual translation talents, and promote Chinese fine traditional culture and Liaoning's regional culture from “going global” to “taking root.” It will play an irreplaceable DUFL role in national and regional capacity building for international communication.
