Chief of Staff of Brazil Mercadante received the faculty of the Confucius Institute of DUFL at the university of Brasilia on March 23.

As Chief of Staff of Brazil, Mercadante is mainly responsible for the coordination of cross-sectoral major issues within the federal government. Once acting as the Minister of Education and that of Science and Technology, Mercadante was very concerned about the exchange and cooperation of educational culture between China and Brazil. He has benefited from the Chinese acupuncture for a long time, and he once put forward the idea of running a Chinese Medical School jointly by the two countries, so that Brazilians can understand and study the profound Chinese traditional medicine systematacially. Mercadante shook hands with all the teachers of the Confucius Institute of DUFL at the university of Brasilia and extended cordial greetings to them. Then he inquired about the status quo of the Confucius Institute, its enrollment, and the teaching situation. Guo Zhiyan, the Chinese dean of the Confucius Institute introduced the institute in detail. She also showed the Chief of Staff the brochures for the activities hosted by the Confucius Institute over the past year. Mercadante listened carefully and said that the Confucius Institute should host more similar activities. He was not only willing to participate himself, but also willing to help more Brazilians to know and understand China. The dean of Chinese side said that the Confucius Institute of DUFL at the university of Brasilia will continue to highlight the teaching characteristics and strengthen the advantages, in hope of carrying out the Chinese training among the Brazilian high-end personages and promoting Chinese culture.
